As a five-year manager at a Burger King franchise, I can concur that this sort of thing is not just limited to "the Enemy." The Fast Food (or Quick-Service as they insist we call it) industry uses and abuses it's employes, resources and customers (sorry - "guests"). And in response to the earlier comment about "just don't work there" it's harder to quit than you'd think. I have been trying to get out of the service industry for the last three years, but no-one wants to hire someone who, even though I have five years (now) experience as a manager, has only worked fast food. It seems there is the image that fast food employees are "uneducated, pimply faced losers" that can only work there because they are incapable of working anyother job.

I've been crew at Micky D's for a year now. When I was hired I was told that when I completed my manager book I would be made a manager since we were in desperate need of managers and I had previous experience at Arbys. 9 months, 3 general managers, 2 area supervisor, and a whole lot of lies later, I'm doing manager work and am not a manager and not even being payed agerave wage at my store. Plus corperate transfered our only saleried manager with any brain to another store and won't let him come back and wonders why our store sucks. I worked at McDonalds over 20 years ago and the management teams then where fantastic, the store was ran in a good way. I just recently became enmployed at McDonalds and worked there for a week. I found out that the good old days where gone. The managers are terable, I have never seen so much incompadence under one roof. Well the managers agreed it would be cool with the, but come to find out they say one thing and mean another. I'm a first assistant of a Mcdonald's in kansas and I can't believe that you have giving up hope on Mcdonald's. Not all of them are like that, i mean yes ours has our share of stupid workers, we have been robbed twice, and so on with crew problems. The rat problem that you talked about is not acceptable. This is the reason that mcdonalds workers, crew or managers have been giving bad names!! The owner/operatior that I work of owns 13 stores and each one of them is in very good shape, all up in sales, and have all passed the inspections. My store manager on top of that is the most caring person, his whole life is pretty much on whether or not everything is perfect. Maybe you could transfer. You could also go all the way up the ladder and get the license to carry the mcdonalds name revoked because in order to rent the name you have to with stand a certain standards. If you really want to take the time you get them in a lot of trouble. Also isnt' there a better business bureau? Also yes we have mexicans working for us, they are all legal I know that for a fact, I do all the hiring, the paperwork, and the scheduling. They are not even allow to work if their permit to work is expired, the have to bring in a new copy before our computer will let us do anything. i wrk at mcdonalds and at least twice a week someone is written up for coming up short in there drawer, at least twice a month someone is fired for doing it. we have a huge ant problem, i've seen people take the bottoms of the buns in grill and wipe them on the floor before starting assembly, one guy rubed his balls in some guys sandwhich before giving it to him, and i dont blame them i hate when people act like there better then u when u ask them to repete themselves and i want to kill people who get pissed at me for the prices being so jipped cuz were on the NY state thruway. i have worked at Mc Donlads for 3 years now i just got a promotion to crew leader. i make 7.30 now i am in charge of the delivery. i hate my job and it's not really the managment that pisses me off its the crew that i work with the are so fucking lazy. no one nows how to change the stupid soda syrup i do it or one of the guys that i do get along with and i respect them for their efforts, they do everything that i do and i am cool with them. but when they empty a box they leave it in the stock room, in the freezer, or cooler, why the fuck cant they break it down and put it with the garbage. they have to be told when to put frys down. they hand out wrong orders all the fucking time. it just pisses me off when i get down with truck i go through the store and open the boxes that we will be using rite away and cut the flaps off so that they can get to the stuf easier and this is also down on a daily basis by the maintenece guy. i told the manager that i think we got some fucking lazy ass people working here and she agreed with me but does nothing about it. another thing is and this pissed the manager off we had one of our biggest lunch rushes the other day and the window people kept taking orders and we had the full screen on with 8 orders plus we were pending 5. But i think what it is people just dont care so the ones that do do the work like me we have to work that much harder to keep the place going. the reason i havent left is no one will pay 7.30 hour to start. i just dont know what i should do to get these morns to pick up after themselves. they think that i am lazy and that i just sit around when i am unloading the truck. but not true if u unload truck u know that u are timed i can unlaod a 500 case truck in 30 min max. so times less. we are haveing a crew meeting on april 25 and we can talk about the shit that is going on and boy is it going to get hot in that room.

You are a Supervisor, you unload 500 cases off a truck and you make a outstanding $7.30 an hour. You might be able to get welfare at that rate. Pull your head out and go back to school. Good luck stupid!

If you go to any McDonalds in Georgia (or in the South for that matter), the cashiers and others (mostly black) are very rude and show a bad attitude. Not all of them are like that. I'm a training manager in a corporate store in WI and I love it. My store manager is wonderful and so are the rest of the managers. I'm ending my first trimester of pregnancy and my store manager is excited for me. Granted, we could do without some of the crew but couldn't every place do without some of its workers?

Wow sounds like a lot of bitterness going around... I work at McDonalds up in Vancouver, BC. I am a Team Leader.. Crew Leader whatever you guys call it down there.. becoming a swing soon. Yes McDonalds isn't the best place to work. And to be honest if you want to work at McDonalds you cannot be a lazy person. People think that its just a job and its a way of getting money... also its usually a first job for most kids. It is definitly hard work. I mean honestly it sucks to work at McDonalds when its super busy and there isn't enough people working to handle the customers. Well I wanted to quit many times, but then when I think of the pro's of working there ... paid breaks, changing schedules whenever you need to, it can be fun when u work with fun people, you can go to school or have a second part time job. Up here in Canada, if you have McDonalds in ur resume, its a good thing because they know that McDonalds make you work hard. Right now I make 9.13 Canadian per hour and I do work hard a lot for the amount of pay I get, but if I start at another job I'll go right back down to 8 dollars per hour. So its not that bad. Also McDonalds has opportunity for you to move up that is if you are a hard worker, if your not.. then forget it. All you gotta do is say yes to managers, look like ur busy when its not, do things without being asked, and be competent at what your doing then you will move up. Its not that hard.

As I read through some of these message posts, many people were dissatisfied with their McDonald's employment experience. I don't wonder why some of these individuals were treated poorly, looking at the spelling and grammar. I think to myself, "these poor illiterate people"! Some of you would have problems picking cans out of dumpsters for a living, if it meant motivating yourselves to do something for income. Some of these posts are from highly literate people. Most of them, I observe, are current employees. The fact of the matter is, McDonald's is an opportunity, if it's not for you, so be it. No matter where you work, there will be a boss you don't particularly care for, and no matter how much you make, it's never enough. McDonalds has been a great experience for more people than not, it's a proven fact, like it or not. If you think there's something better out there for you, get off the internet, and go find a better job. A job is only what you put into it. I quit that god forsaken job at Kevin Lilley's McDonald's in Palestine, TX. I had a black female employee come into the store where we made a mistake on her order (which does not justify her actions) as she then calls the police and says she was threatened. This after she spends 10 minutes calling me a "white [fill in the blank with whatever you choose]." The police get there and, of course take her side. The sad part here is that I filed charges on her (out of desperation) but the company would have preferred i did not do this because she was a customer. Then, to top it off, she demanded an apology for the threat which I refused to do as I had already hired an attorney (which Kevin Lilly refused to do) but he still wanted to tell me how to handle my case. So I was told to apologise or lose my job. Sad, and I agreed to do so, however, she never asked for her apology on the steps of City Hall as she dropped the charges. This owner/operator has a history of discrimination against white males. Black, hispanic, and white females are able to get away with almost anything. In fact, one employee never reported to work, assaulted me on a shift one morning and everytime he was terminated he would call the office and speak to Kevin and accuse him of being racist towards blacks (boy was he off base) so he would get his job back. This is bred in the owner operators from McD's. Fear minorities and women at all cost... white men stand no chance within their organization.

The managers and coworkers are unhelpful and rude. They give you a two minute introduction to the high tech touchscreen cash register(while taking orders at the same time) then they just leave you by yourself at a counter(i freaking hate that place.)And when you ask them a question, about something that you shouldnt have really been assigned to in the first place because you are new, they act like you are stupid or you are bothering them. Then they walk around with dirty ass soaking wet mops and mop behind you, so when you turn around you almost fall on your ass. Then they tell you to go in the back and refill condiments and stuff without telling you where everything is, and then yell at you when you are taking to long. The people that have been there for a long time look like they almost enjoy them sleves, bescause they know what they are doing, but they are not very good at teaching you anything. And the stupid manager that hired me wasnt even there, and she forgot to make a schedule for me. So when i asked when i was supossed to come in the next day and they we all like "I dont know, call in the morning." Freaking retards!!!! I am so going to work somewhere where the are no fries, no big macs, no stupid ass people asking for one thing then lying and saying that they ordered another thing, no stupid ass managers with acne problems not telling you how things work, and most of all, no cash registers made from NASA. Mcdonalds is certainly every bad thing that it has been called, so dont work there, just eat there.

I used to LOVE McDonald's. I still LOVE fast food. When I was a kid, McDonald's was on the ball >> sure, the food wasnt the best thing 4 u, but it tastes great, and i never had any problems with my orders.

Now, I am 30 years old, and no exageration, 85% of my orders are either wrong or cold. Something has happened. I live in Vancouver Canada, and i'd say about 70% of McDonald's employees here cant even speak english, let alone take an order correctly.

It took 30 years, but now McDonald's has lost my business. I guess it's time to grow up and start eating healthy anyways.

First of all id like to open by saying that Macdonalds is proppably the biggest example of exploitation i can think of.

Iv'e worked as a crew member for just over a year and the ammout of things i have witnessed, are far from what people could possibly even think or consider to contemplate.

iv'e know people forced to work a full 8 hour shift without a break, higher staff members fixing the clocks so people have shorter breaks which are unpaid btw. Ive also seen a total lack in staff training over the last couple of months it seems theyll employ almost anyone, even people who put good swimmer under qualifications seem to get employed. If you ask me there needs to be an inquest conducted into the way the macdonalds corporation initialises it's business. To me there is mass exploitation. I myself was made to a delivery with no personal training what so ever, during this delivery i surviveraly hurt my hand.. when i requested to put this incident in the incident book it was refused and i was told to carry on working, the delivery took me 3 hours when on average it should take 1 in consequence some frozen stock was ruined, i got disaplinary action took against me , what the fuck is that about? and another thing why should members that have applied to work as kicthen staff be made to work on d/a (dinning area) ? the whole systems corrupt

For one, Grills are cleaned after every use. 2 If crew work 5+ hours they get a half an hour break where they get FREE food. 3 Mcdonald's stays open until 1am so that the customers have the advantage of the stores being open later. As well as the crew who have the advantage of of flexibility in their rosters. If We didn't have early and late shifts we wouldn't have the flexiblity to give crew time off for sporting commitments, etc.

McDonald's is a place that does its business completely based on profits and to hell with the customer and his desire for a low cost breakfast or hamburgers. Hamburgers is supposed to be cheap and is an expression of cheapness. Many people in Los Angeles do not have the money to eat there as if McDonalds is for the priveleged. So rather than sell super cheap theorizing that more customers will make a purchase to be efficient there is a new theory that Mcdonald's uses to be efficient. That theory says that if you can raise the profits double and only lose one half of the customers then you are most efficient. Put another way its doing the least amount of work for the most price possible. Put another way you can be sure that when you buy at McDonald's you are paying the most for the least. In this way rich investors hold poor people in thier place so they don't have a chance to be more than a laborer. And as a customer what the hell am I going to eat there for because it's not really worth it even though I have the money to blow. If your going to do it right go to Fatburger. No pretending there. Ever since Mcdonald's dropped the secret ingredient in the french fries because of all the over weight fat people lawsuits going around Mcds french fries suck! I liked the coconut or cottonseed oil that once came with the french fries so they could still claim cooked in a vat of 100% vegetable oil. Man those french fries ruled! But because of profits McDonalds is currently selling salads which also leave a skinny person starving or even a fit person. It gibves people a job and gives them a menas to make ends meat. I have been there long enough to u nderstand how well of a buisness it is. I am a second assitant manager in canada. For those you keep saying we are losers at mcdonalds with no education. Alot of us in our market are currently in university or done. First of all: 7.50 an hour to be a manager? I get $9.23 Australian which works out to be US$7.20 and that's only as a part-time CREW PERSON. As well as this we get holiday pay, sick pay and superannuation. I can't believe in America managers are only paid 30 cents more than crew people in Australia are.

Second: Working at maccas in Australia is nowhere near as bad as the stories coming from Canada and America. All of the managers at my store are friendly and helpful, including the owner, store manager and operations manager. I actually like working here (strange concept to you?) and it wouldn't be the same without them.

The things people say about the job being shit the managers not being friendly blah blah blah maybe if you worked hard or tried to excel then they would respect you more. If you work hard then you get recognised for that.

As for the hygeine and food safety standards over there, what is going on??? Nothing like that happens where I work, nor have I heard of it happening at any other Maccas here.

The majority of people who work where I do are currently studying at university or high school. In fact, 3 of the 5 swing managers are studying medicine at uni and I plan to study law and commerce when I finish high school. McDonalds training is actually something that looks GOOD on a resume here; it is known in Australia for its high standards and it provides nationally recognised qualifications.

God is capitalized.

"There" means something that is not here, "their" means something that belongs to someone and "they're" is short for they are. There is a big difference.

If more people were to use the language as it was intended, then there would be fewer people complaining about the work they have to do in order to make the money they need to eat.

i work at mcdonalds and i recently got burned while cleaning the grill after closing. our managers were extremely responsible. they filled out the accident report, did all the paper work, sent me to the ER and paid all of the bills. my mcdonalds is a pretty good place to work.
