Hello my name is Shayna. I am a freshman student from Christopher High School. I am very eager to find information on becoming a pediatric nurse when I get older. I am also doing a essay on exactly what is a pediatric nurse and what does one do. I would really like it if you could e mail me back and give me some information on this topic. Well thank you for your time and please contact me back. You can e mail me at moocow13sb@yahoo.com
I also wanted to tell you how much I liked your page it really is the truth I wish I could find more people like you that really like nursing because I have wanted to do it since I was about five or six. Well I have to go for now bye.
I've also been a nurse for about 9 years. I have worked in medical-surgical and women's health nursing. Currently, I am employed in a teaching facility where they supposedly care about their nurses. I have also completed a Master's in Community Health Nurse because I thought that it would truly make a difference in my career. However, I STILL HATE IT!!!! And you must be living in a fantasy.

Then you better get out of the nursing profession at one. You're not worth being there with that kind of attitude.Shame on you.LOSER!!!!!

hi guys, i'm a newly registered nurse in australia out for 4months. i'm working at a kids hospital with adolescents. i am enjoying my job mostly because i love the people i work with and the support i recieve from them.
our hospital in quite unique in the fact that they try to make a level playing field. we're not running behind the doctors. i'm really interested to hear what other people have to say. do you really still have to wear white dresses and hats or was that a joke?
i'm lucky, i get to wear casual, jeans included!! i don't even have to wear black shoes.
i was ready to quit nursing before i started but i took the oppoutunity to work at my hospital and haven't regreted it.
i totally understand how people get burnt out and hate it which is really sad because it is an invaluable job which isn't apprecited.
imagine a world without nurses. it's a pity only a few people appreciate this. really sad actually.
does anyone have any advice on what sort of jobs i could do in the USA if i was to travel. i want to work with kids or adolescents. i don't really want to do nursing in a hospital.
i love if someone could drop me a line. i'm 21, enthusiastic, fun loving aussie girl who works hard. but not as hard as you nurses work. thats slave labour.

Wonderful posting. My sister is a young nurse and her and her friends love their jobs. They say if you dont like where you work change it. Stop complaining and bashing the entire profession. None of them work in hospitals, they are RNs in different institutions with varying levels of patient care.
Nice posting. I always thought it was common sense to QUIT if you don't like a job and with bad nursing jobs, thats just what unhappy nurses need to to. There are different places to work. Ask around, look around, move to a different state, etc. You dont all have to work in a hospital. There are other places.

not everyone can just quit their job no matter how much they hate it, people have obligations. It cost money to live. Although I heard that walmart carries tents starting at $20. I have never been in walmart but maybe I'll have a look. If i can find a nice studio tent & a warm sleeping bag then possibly I could quit my job.

I am not a nurse I am a surgical tech, but I haven't worked for months. I have started to feel better but this can't go on forever I will have to return to work some day. But I don't think I can take it in the OR any longer. It's the same everywhere & I know it. I could fool myself & say well if I were a nurse I would have more opportunities, but I know that would just be more of the same. Although RNs really don't relate to techs we have much in common. Wouldn't it be nice if the 2 groups could get together and collaborate?
Oh I guess I'm just dreaming again. There is so much dissention amongst nurses and surgical techs are no better. The hospital and docs love it, divide and conquer. They win we loose, but if it makes you feel any better you can set someone up for a fall & even though you haven't done anything to promote your own well being you can look down at your fallen angel. Why do people do this? I am so disgusted

I am only a second year student nurse but I love the program! I think that nursing is exactly where it is at for me.
What other profession gives the opportunity to truly help others in some of the most critical stages of their life?
I could be saying all this because I am a 'freshie' but I sincerely hope that I do not turn into a pessimistic nurse that hates her job.
You truly take away what you invest in your career. Something that I believe affects the way you view your career is the motive that guides one to be part of a profession. I would hope that there is a sincere wish to help others and that this motive would override the money and the job opportunities available. I wouldn't want a nurse caring for me that didn't want to be there.
Having worked with many nurses in my clinical settings you can pick out the competent nurses from the others and attitude about your career plays a significant role!

Second year STUDENT NURSE?? HA HA HA! How surprising.
You sound like one of those Johnson&Johnson bullshit propaganda ads trying to promote the godforsaken dinosaur carass field of nursing to fresh-faced innocents tender and ripe for the slaughter who have no earthly idea what circle of hell awaits them once they walk onto the floor of their first real job. And "Compent nurses"? What the fuck do you now about competent nursing? You have yet to hold a license and PRACTICE nursing so you know NOTHING. You know nothing of what a soul-sucking profession nursing is. Sitting in a classroom and getting all of this bullshit fed to you about how nursing is a "Calling" and how noble it all is and how any nurse that hates the system and this whole idiotic, corrupt, money-grubbing, power-hungry sadomasochistic, cannibalistic field and wants to see a change for the better is...an "Imcompetent nurse". FUCK THAT. You sound like a recording of every other bullshit nurse that sits on her/his ass and does jack shit all day but meddling, back-stabbing, gossiping, brown-nosing while taking the credit for the work that the COMPETENT and unhappy (for GOOD REASON) nurses bust their asses to do! Wanna know why there's such a shortage? People like you who have no idea what they are even TALKING ABOUT. Nursing is full of idiots and assholes. All the good nurses are either getting out, already out or looking for other avenues to GET OUT. Have fun I'm sure you'll do well.

The key to your posting is "not of them work in hospitals", that's where most of the nurses are needed and work, as it is an aging population. Most of the nurses complaining about their jobs work on hospital floors, emergencies, icu, etc...in theses areas the nurses are under high stress, overworked, and the patient to nurse ratio is scary. These nurses 'complain' because they are venting and they don't think it is right for the nurses or patients. You try to go a day without using the bathroom, eating, and running full out all day and feeling like you get nothing done, because the workload is impossible. But if they all took your advice and quit...the hospitals would be empty...think before you speak!!

If you love your job as a nurse, then YOU MUST be dipping into the controlled meds box.

I truly hope the shortage continues and gets much worse - that will be the only causative factor to lower the nurse/patient ratios and anti-nurse policies.

I am not a nurse, but I am seriously considering it as a career. Regardless of whether I choose to enter into this field, I just want to say thank you to all you nurses out there.
I am a 22-year old college senior who was in a bad car accident when I was 17. My experience of having a grade3 splenic lac, a very serious case of mono, and a badly broken ankle was made so much better from the kind and caring nurses that took care of me for my 2-week stay in the hospital.
I never got a chance to thank the particular nurses that took care of me back then, but let me take the opportunity to thank each and every one of you for all that you do.
During my stay, I always felt horrible having to press the call light, as I knew the nurses were incredibly busy, never mind the fact that I felt awful making them deal with my bedpan and all that wonderful stuff. Through it all, though, they were sweet and selfless and always tried to make me smile and feel better.
So, whether you love your job or hate it, are a recent grad or have been in the profession for 20 years, please know that there really are people out here that want to say thank you and will always be grateful for all that you do.
When I think of the medical profession and who the true heroes are, I will always say it's the nurses, not the doctors. To be a doctor you have to endure several more years in school, but nurses spend their entire career putting everyone before themselves. They are undoubtedly the angels in this world and I will forever respect them.
