Perhaps you should read this, I found it quite interesting. A non-Target shopper.
By Dick Forrey of the Vietnam Veterans Association
Recently we asked the local TARGET store to be a proud sponsor of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall
during our spring recognition event. We received the following reply from the local TARGET management:
"Veterans do not meet our area of giving. We only donate to the arts, social action groups, gay &lesbian
causes, and education."
So I'm thinking, if the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall and veterans in general do not meet their donation
criteria, then something is really wrong at this TARGET store. We were not asking for thousands of dollars, not
even hundreds, just a small sponsorship for a memorial remembrance.
As a follow-up, I e-mailed the TARGET U.S. corporate headquarters and their response was the same. That's
their national policy.
Then I looked into the company further. They will not allow the Marines to collect for 'Toys for Tots' at any of
their stores. And during the recent Iraq deployment, they would not allow families of employees who were
called up for active duty to continue their insurance coverage while they were on military service.
Then as I dig further, TARGET is a French-owned corporation.
Now, I'm thinking again. If TARGET can not support American Veterans, then why should I and my family
support their stores by spending our hard earned American dollars and to have their profits sent to France.
Without the American Vets, where would France be today?
Feel free to pass this along to whomever you want.
Sincerely,
Dick Forrey

I too worked for Target in a District position - and let me tell you, when they want you OUT - they will find a way, it doesn't matter how good you are, if you were in EVERYDAY and put in extra...if they want you gone....they will find a way to do it. I used to like Target ...it has changed, people do not hesistate to stab you in the back...including DM's!

Sounds like Target is in bed with wal-Mart. Wal-Mart treats their associates like S*** and doesn't hesitate to kick them out the door no matter how hard working they are or how many years they have put in.
It is either Wal-Mart way or the high Way. Isn't it sad that all these Multi-Billion Dollar Companies can get away with this kind of treatment and the poor working slob Always gets the shaft. The Rich keep getting Richer and the Poor Get Poorer. Very sad, Maybe Unions need to try and get into these companies.

I am working at Target as a cashier. The first six months, they want to know what you think. After that, your opinion doesn't really matter. The store will be the same with or without you. Some LODs and GSTLs are okay. The problem is with the CORPORATE attitude. They dictate to the individual stores what is best. But they don't know. As cashiers and salespeople, Target workers feel very insignificant. Their opinion doesn't really matter is their own store, much less on a larger level. Therefore, you learn to grin and bear it. Some days are okay, but as a career- not going to happen. Too much physical labor and you must have the attitude of unskilled laborers. It's bearable as a job, but never looked appealing to me as a career.

From what I have read it appears to be that Target is not interested in contructive feed back from anyone. I have looked for a place to send my comment and concern over Targets dicision not to allow Salvation Army Volunteers in front of their stores. I can not find one. Any company that can support questionable organizations with actual donations, but not a time proved organization which is only requesting space outside in the cold is a questionable organization itself. Thus I do not intend to support them with my purchases.

This morning I was considering applying for a job at Target, so I decided to get some background info first. I'm glad I did. I learned that Target ALLEGEDLY supports gays/lesbians, but not American War Veterans - that they are run by Corporate Offficers who don't connect with the employees they are running - that local bosses either are trained Corporate, or specifically hired because they think Corporate - NOT in favor of gtowth and advancement of company employees. Minus the gay/lesbian allegation, Target sounds just like the last company I worked for, whom I wouldn't recommend to anyone, for emplooyment or services. For a short-term job, if I'm desperate enough, I might give them a quick spin - IF the allegations are true. I plan to do some one-on-one, first-hand investigatioin. To anyone not so ambitious, I'd suggest moving on to greener pastures.
