View Full Version : Job Story: Being a Model Scout
I am an ex-emodel scout. I found out after 2 weeks of working there what a scam operation it really was. There has now been several TV news stories in the San Francisco Bay Area that are exposing this and a few other operations that are similar. If you want to really get into modeling find out more by visiting large modeling agency web sites such as Ford. By the way Ford does NOT hire models from emodel, never have. There you will find out that modeling agencies do not even charge their models for the comp cards. By the way almost all the comp cards are on line now. No one does it by mail anymore, but emodel would have you believe they do. Also the email address in the top post in Seattle is an email address for the emodel office. That is the standard email address they use.

You ever notice how anytime anyone makes a positive comment eModel, these 'Jennifers' get all up in your face and start talking smack about what you just said?!?

And yet, at the same time, 'Jennifer' can say everything negative and it's the gospel.

Let me get this straight then:
Talk trash and I'm the next messiah
Talk 'em up, and I'm a skank??

I say go to the website, see what it's got.

EMODEL worked for me. I got scouted in August 01. I've gone to over 50 calls for everything from open calls to specific assignments. Working closely with LA Models now.

I scout for Options Talent. It's been great- Gives me a _paying_ excuse to be out and about meeting new people and introducing them to the modeling industry.

I scouted for eModel too. When I was doing it 24/7 I was meeting a LOT of pretty cool people and making some good money on the side. I always made sure to give the people I scouted the LD on what to expect and never felt like I was doing anything unethical.

I've scouted in and out of Detroit. I like it cuz it fits my sched. I get a buzz talking to new people- Get plenty of support by the office.
I've just started scouting- like any new job, it's pretty tough. All the people though that have been here a while keep telling me to hang in though and that once I get my feet wet, things go a lot smoother.
I scout in and around Orange County in southern California. It's been fun meeting and interacting with new people. I go out all the time anyway, so this let's me put some extra cash in my pocket.

What's there not to like? I meet new people all the time, the office I work out of is great, everyone is way supportive, and I maked a good living?
I have an interview in a couple of days for a model scout position. Any feedback on what to expect would be great. Please email me.

How many people want to be models? Everyone does I'm sure! Well for all of you who are mad @emodel your goofy! Seriously if you all open your ears and listen to the presenter they tell you all the requirments on being a model. Does emodel reject? Yes they do! If they know they(the models) don't fit any standards and still want to model does anyone have a right to tell them NO! Think about it your just mad at the world because you don't look like Cindy, Tyra, or Naomi. Simple! Thanks for your time!!!!
Oh ya! I have gotten work off their site:)

You notice how all the positive comments are made within minutes of each other on the same day by all different people. How coincidental they all found the list within minutes. Emodel is a scam and others are too, just like the other messager said. Don't send money to anyone unless you KNOW they are reputable. That means no going by internet message board messages that are dummied up to look like they actually are good people. Take it from someone who knows.
I got requested by Elite in Singapore to do some work. Only Shae on the website--- look me up

I sent photos back in April 2001. Not long afterwards, Ahead of the Pace got a hold of me and I began to work national promotional ad for L'Oreal. It's great that I keep getting response, though I'm not always able to go where the jobs are located.

For all of you that might have been contacted by a representative of eModels here is the latestI have recently signed with Colby Co, one of New York's top personal management firms and New York Model Management. Colby Co has placed talent with Ford, IMG, Elite, and other top agencies so I'm hopefull that I'll get the chance to play with the big dogs.

I personally enjoy the scouting. Sometimes its pretty cool to roll up on people sometimes its not. I keep at it because I like what I'm doing. I like giving people the opp. to see the industry and start getting involved. They pay pretty good if you work hard. I can see how if your not too motivated it could be kind of a b*tch, but ya got to keep focused.
Yeah, too bad that eModel is a scam!!!
They claim that Ford, elite, and Img are among there clients but all three issued statements that they have NEVER used eModel. Another known fact is that they never turn down any prospective models. What they will do however is ask you for $500 to sign on. Try to find a model who's gotten work through them. Search google for "emodel scam". What's worse is that thier model scouts are asked to work 40 hours a week for a whole month for FREE. After that, they are only paid if the models who sign through them pay the $500. Thats why they are so persuasive agout your chances of being a succesful model. They want your money! Meanwhile they're bringing in the money frm hundreds of hopeful models. The whole thing is sick.

i was "scouted" and i went to the open call, then got interviewed on the phone, and then they accepted me. paid my 500 bucks. it was that easy.even I got "accepted." they arent selective at all.. just look at the "emodels" on their site! u'd wonder how THEY ever got chosen... makes u realize that they just accept anyone with money!!!!!!! BEWARE OF EMODEL. its not worth it. i regret paying them!! i didnt get anything out of it. dont waste ur money.

Mars, I've followed your posts everywhere after a friend asked me to see what I could find for her about Emodel. What axe do you have to grind? Your weren't booked?? You're negativity about Emodel is all over- don't pretend to be an hapless observer flamming away like you do.

When I read stuff like these comments, I feel like these people are pretty bitter. I signed up with emodel a few months ago after being scouted here at food court in PA of all places. I've booked with Bridal Magazine AND Mercedes-Benz. How's that for the success of my enrollement with emodel?

I was scouted, placed on the website, and booked with a promotional job with Yoplait. I have access to the website and looking through the models they have listed, I feel pretty damn lucky I was selected, considering the competition from the other models.

I've had great experiences with Emodel. Everyone I dealt with was genuinely nice and seemed happy to be working for there. I was suprised to be scouted in Denver- I work at a bar and hear it all. I went through the interviews had a great time. I got to meet some really good people. I wasn't really sure how it would all pan out but within 2 weeks I got booked with Parliament! It's all still new to me but I'm enjoying myself doing something I've always thought about.

I'm a graduate from Stanford in California. I was scouted and enrolled. Their searchable database is what sold me. I've been called by a handful of agencies AND shortly after I was booked for Micheal Jackson's CRY video. How's that for success? It was a great experinece. The people were great and the song was meaningful and touching. The setting was beautiful and the whole time was well spent.

Characteristics of Our Virgin Coconut Oil Virgin Coconut oil is a truly unrefined coconut oil. This coconut oil is made on Mt. Banahaw from organic coconuts. Coconuts are used fresh (within 24 hours of harvest) from small family farms on Mt. Banahaw in Quezon Province, the coconut capital of the Philippines. The volcanic soil of Mt. Banahaw makes these organic coconuts some of the most nutritionally rich coconuts in the world! Testing done in independent laboratories reveals a 50% - 53% content of lauric acid. The fresh coconut meat is shredded (wet milled), and then cold-pressed to make coconut milk. The milk is then fermented for 24-36 hours, and the oil is then separated and filtered from the curds. No chemical or high-heat treatment is used, and this oil contains no trans fatty acids. We do NOT mass produce this oil. It is made by families who are coconut farmers using old-fashioned traditional methods that have been used here for hundreds of years. Our coconut trees and family producers are certified organic according to strict USDA standards. This high-grade virgin coconut oil has a long shelf life due to coconut oil's natural anti-oxidant properties. It has the longest shelf life of any plant oil!Dr. Joseph Mercola
How is This Oil Used?*
This grade of coconut oil can be applied directly to the skin for conditioning. It is great in the hair for eliminating dandruff. As a cooking oil, its chemical structure is kept in tact and therefore is resistant to mutations of fatty acid chains even when used in higher cooking temperatures, unlike most vegetable oils. For those looking to lose weight naturally, switching to Virgin Coconut Oil can burn off unwanted pounds. Virgin Coconut Oil is also great for digestive disorders such as Crohn's disease, IBS, and Colits. It is a powerful agent in killing intestinal parasites. Thyroid sufferers are finding that Virgin Coconut oil boosts the metabolism and raises body temperatures. And there is exciting research showing that the MCTs (medium chain triglycerides) in coconut oil act to kill Candida Albicans! These MCTs are also responsible for revving up metabolism and giving energy, which holds promise for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome sufferers, as well as others who need to boost their energy. It is also great as a carrier for massage oils, and is highly valued as an ingredient in natural soaps and skin care products.
Virgin Coconut oil is rich in lauric acid, a proven antiviral and antibacterial agent. It is currently being used in treating AIDS. Monolaurin is a monoglyceride of lauric acid. Lauric acid is also found in human mother's milk. Dr. Mary Enig suggests the average adult include about 3.5 Tbsp. of coconut oil per day in their diet.
Some comments from users:
Received my coconut oil last week and I have to tell you this just might be the best oil on the planet! Today I simply fried some potatoes in it and they were so special. Not to mention using it on my skin, hair. It is truly an all purpose oil -- the best. The customer service demonstrated when I ordered from your company is second to none I've encountered. Thank you very much. Frances - Wake Forest, North Carolina
You should be absolutely certain, however, of the quality and effectiveness of whatever coconut oil brand you choose. There is a very wide variance in terms of the types of coconuts, the manufacturing processes used to make the oil, and more, which will have a major impact on the healthiness and effectiveness your coconut oil. Because there is so much uncertainty, my team and I here researched coconut oil extensively until we found the ideal source. I now highly recommend and offer you what is clearly the premier brand of virgin coconut oil in the U.S., Tropical Traditions. The Tropical Traditions virgin coconut oil I highly recommend. Dr. Mercola, mercola.com
Testimonials Regarding Using Coconut Oil in the Diet
Weight Loss
Over the past 18 months I've lost 107 pounds, going from 316 to 209 and from 52 to 36 pants (19 pounds to go). I lost the weight following a low carb, no sugar or grain, high saturated fat and high protein diet and eliminating ALL soy products and ALL polyunsaturated vegetable oils. I used about 2 or 3 tablespoons of Virgin Coconut Oil daily. I eat 6 eggs and half pound of beef and half pound of chicken a day and also use butter and olive oil. 1 or 2 pieces of fruit and a bunch of veggies daily. I walk an hour a day and work out 2 or 3 times a week. I'm 53 years old and cholesterol is 172, good ratios, triglycerides at 72 and blood sugar is 85. No meds of any kind, no illness, unlimited energy and I can easily outwork younger guys on my crew. I really believe in the importance of consuming a large amount of quality saturated fats. Chuck
For nursing mothers:
I have personal experience with using Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) to richen my milk supply :-) In fact, this is why I started taking VCO in the first place. My baby was very low weight and I just Knew that something wasn't right. Our ped was no help~ he said because she hadn't lost weight, she was fine. I finally went to a naturopathic doctor, and explained my situation (besides the baby gaining only a few ounces, I had PPD). Since my baby was my 9th and I'd nursed the last 6... He said that I probably didn't have enough good fats in my system. That would account for my milk not being rich enough/full of fat to help her grow, and it also probably had a great deal to do with my hormones being out of whack and me struggling with PPD. I started taking VCO when the baby was 5 months old. By the time she was 7 months old, she'd gained 3 whole pounds! My PPD had disappeared also :)
We went back for a weight check when the baby was 9 months old, and she had gained another 2 pounds and was not only back on the weight chart, but on the correct curve for her age, etc. I had also noticed that she was developing new skills all at once, that maybe she'd not been able to before. My ped was so impressed he asked me what I'd done... I was a little nervous about telling him, but truthfully, the only thing I'd done differently was to take the VCO! So I told him and he never rolled his eyes or treated me like I'd lost my mind ;-) He even wrote it in her chart!
I can hardly wait to see what the effects of the VCO is on me after the baby weans (she's 17 months old now~ and my other kids weaned by themselves around 2 years). I could really stand to lose a decent amount of weight... but in the meantime, I'm happy with what it's done for my hormones and for my baby's growth and development :-)

Thyroid Sufferers
I purchased a jar of your coconut oil about a month ago. I purchased your coconut oil because it is in a glass jar and because of the pictures and information on your website. I have a low thyroid and have been trying to find natural ways to speed things up. I take 2 tablespoons everyday and have found my energy level and weight loss to be its best in years. I am now able to control my hypothyroidism without having to take prescription drugs. This means a lot to me. The quality of your product is the best. Thank you for such a wonderful product. Heather
I have added about 3 tablespoons of coconut oil to my diet a day on top of my normal amount of calories. (I'm trying to get it up more.) I have a family history of thyroid disorders. All of my living sisters and my mother are currently being treated for hypothyroidism. I have struggled all my life with trying to keep my weight down and have to eat between 1200 and 1400 calories plus do regular exercise in order to keep my weight stable. I decided to use coconut oil after reading the work of Dr. Ray Peat and feeling for years that my thyroid function has never been adequate. In the past thyroid tests have shown me to be a tiny bit low, not enough for treatment. My own experience so far has been very good. I have not put on any new weight even though I am eating easily 300 more calories a day. I have actually dropped a few pounds recently since working on eating more coconut oil. I am a celiac and the coconut oil has had very good effects on my intestinal tract as well. I am the only one left in my immediate family not on thyroid medication right now and the only one not overweight. Something must be right about this. I am 49 and seem to be healthy for my age. Tish

Hi there,
Hope you had a great day!
I am also an ex model scout with the EModel, but that was about five years back...yikes! I'm very interested in becoming a model scout..trying to get out of the corporate of technical recruiting. As a recruiter you definitely learn a lot about yourself and people (mentally stressful) but, isn't most jobs!
Do you know of any leads in pursuing scouting?? It will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
