I, too, am currently a technical trainer. You can also tag on coordinator, tech wrtier, publisher, XEROX duplicating expert, end user support specialist, and small application programmer.

I can relate to this article!
<br>
Before this job, I worked for a U.S. computer company based in Germany.
<br>
i got my current position becasue the rest of tech instructors had run out of patience with people. I still maintian my benchmark of liking people and being patient with them (although it becomes increasingly harder).I have been in this field for four years. The job itself is gratifying. My boss rarely checks on me, and since he doesn't have a clue about information technology or life cycles of such, I am left to my own career. I recently tested the waters on finding a new positiono within the company, but everyone has it in their inds that training and tech writing is all I am capable of performing. Yes, these are the same people who call and ask for help on Excel fields that don't "calculate". Well, let's see (me to a senior engineer), you can't add a month and a day, just like the ole' math rules go, you must have the same units of measure.
<br>
So, yes, self-motivated. And I do mean SELF MOTIVATED!! There is no one to bouce ideas of of, no one to talk with about what is going on, no one to develop comraderie. EXCEPT for the people being trained and the need my service. All in all, it can be pretty lonely.
