I used to be a junky.Clean now.Got clean in jail, stayed clean. My history with law enforcement and jailers is long,I've seen alot. There are some bad people in the wrong jobs everywhere. There are also some good, who truly want to help.Where do you stand?I am not a "dirtbag" anymore, but I've encountered alot of cops who truly are.

I believe this man myself. I have been the victim of much powerplay shenanigans in other industries and this sort of bulldozing by supervisors is not unusual when it comes to disabilities in the USA. There's a monstrous climate of discrimination when it comes to any group that doesn't fall into healthy, normal, straight in this country. Not a compassionate place to live by and large and not at all when compared to the appropriate social programs, even extended to foreigners, in most of western europe.

I don't know just how accurate the information is that you have but it really wouldn't surprise me at all to find it was true.I too have worked for the federal and state governments for 15 years now.I carried a secret security clearance with the federal government for 10 years and I know the crooked tricks that are pulled on people first hand by the feds.As far as the state government goes I am in North Carolina and it is a redneck type of "Good Ol Boy" atmosphere that goes after the people they want in any supported fashion. The entire state system is corrupt and dirty. They spend the whole time washing the dirt from each other's hands and covering their friend's backs.Don't be surprised if somebody says things that might be hard to believe or prove. In this day and time there are places and people who still resort to the old ways of dealing with problems that they tend to bring on themselves. It doesn't matter if it's state or federal governments involved they are both corrupt as hell and I know because I have worked for both of them.At this time I work for the Department of Transportation division #9 in Rowan county,North Carolina. Here they still have "clicks".....yeeeehawww

I too am an employee with the Department of Transportation Highway Maintenance Division #9 in Rowan County,North Carolina.I can also attest that we do have a serious problem in the state government job sector. Here we have a chain of command that resorts to dirty tactics all the way to Raleigh. If one of them decides to shaft somebody all the others will join in to cover his back as a favor. If you use the Human Resource channel for help you are doomed. They will tell you that nobody will know who you are or what you had to say.As soon as you leave the person you made the complaint on knows everything. That is supposed to be against the state regulations but it is totally ignored.Later that same person will work spite against you till you quit or are terminated for something convienient. This is a no win situation. Our Division engineer has had EEOC,Labor Department and Human Resource complaints made on him constantly to no avail.People from the governor on down have been pleaded to for help and they all turn a deaf ear to it.We are completely at the mercy of a person who gets some kind of sick satisfaction of playing power games with all the employees. If you don't bow to him you are gone.Anybody who is contemplating employment with any state agency should think twice. These aren't the benefit and salary filled jobs that you think. They pay low and have had almost all the benefits cut out.All you can hope for is that you get to stay around to retire without being rail roaded with the political games. Then again the retirement is almost nothing to speak of also.Do yourself a favor and save a lot of grief on your part and go to the private job sector. In state and federal jobs nobody but nobody gives a damn if you keep your job or not as long as they get their pay checks. If you lose yours tough shit. And if you don't kiss the right ass or get in the right group you will lose it and that is a fact here in North Carolina.

i was a tennessee c/o for 4 yrs. for a privately owned facility. i got into that line of work just because a new facility opened up in my area(which i will not state because of fear of retaliation). so basicly it was just for the money but i later found that despite the stress and bull that it had gotten in my blood i was 1 of many good female c/o's. i slaved for my shift supervisors and though i was rideculed i even went into labor with my 1st son in the line of duty, was later promoted one rank and did not return to work there after my maternity leave was over with my 2nd son. i miss the place alot because after 4 yrs. it was all i knew, i lived, slept, and ate corrections. i also made alot of friends. but the pay wasnt good enouph to keep the good officers around so after a while the place went to the inmates and alot of unexpierienced teens were hired straight out of highschool in order to fill empty positions. nepitism ran wild, my husband also worked with me and later went to a better job in a diferent facility. i have mixed emotions about the whole thing i have even been asked to come back by the chief of security my stripes would even be given back, but i'm a "flash light cop" now. i took a big cut in pay but it was also a big cut in stress. i plan to return to corrections after my kids are older, maybe even my old facility but not until things change alot i was very young (19) when i started and i dont discourage any one from trying it, but its not the game people take it for. it was for me, but its not for every one. well i could write a book about the reasons i left but this story is already drawn out enouph.

I DO FEEL FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY. HOWEVER, THE FAMILY ALWAYS COMES FIRST. I AM A NEW BOOT FRESH OUT OF THE ACADEMY WITH 45 DAYS ON THE JOB, AND I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT THE PRESERVATION OF SELF SUPERCEDES ALL. I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SAFETY OF STAFF, INMATES AND ABOVE ALL ELSE MYSELF. AGAIN I'M NEW AT THIS GAME, BUT ALREADY I LOVE IT. IT'S NOT FOR EVERYONE, IT TAKES A VERY SPECIAL PERSON TO SUCCEED IN THIS FIELD. GOOD LUCK TO ALL THAT FOLLOW. LONG LIVE NJDOC.

FIRST OF ALL I WANT TO SAY THAT YOU AND YOUR FAMILY WILL REMAIN IN MY PRAYERS AND I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO SAY ON THE POSITIVE NOTE I AM A C/O IN A VA FACILITY. I AM 23 YRS OLD AND I COULDN'T HAVE ASKED FOR A BETTER PLACE TO WORK..I WOULDN'T TRADE IT FOR ANYTHING IN THE WORLD........I HAVE BEEN IN CORRECTIONS FOR ALMOST 1 YEAR AND IT REALLY MAKES ME FEEL GOOD TO KNOW THAT AT MOMENTS NOTICE THE GUYS AND GIRLS I WORK WITH HAVE GOT MY BACK...OUR LT'S ARE THE BEST AND I JUST COULDN'T HAVE FOUND A BETTER FACILITY TO WORK FOR IF I HAD SCOPED IT OUT WITH A MAGNIFYING GLASS......AND TO THE WRITER OF THIS ARTICLE STAY STRONG AND REMEMBER STAND STILL AND GOD WILL FIGHT YOUR BATTLES FOR YOU.

I am starting a law enforcement course in Sept. 01 with hopes on becoming a C/O in the next few years. I definately heard some horror stories about that career, with some ups. Is Correction Officer that bad of a job? Your story is something that I took to heart. And hope that everything works out for the good with you and your family. I hope to hear your opinion.

I can indeed relate and feel for the person telling this story.

I've worked as a security guard/officer as a "stand by" job, whenever I can't get a job doing what I truly want to do, that's what I always fall back on. I hate it. The pay is low. You are regularly expected to work on holidays, with low pay, and always at risk of getting seriously hurt or killed in dangerous situations.

As a security guard, I've been threatened by people (knowing that if I reacted I'd be fired) and worked afternoon, day and late-night shifts every week, without any insurance coverage or benefits from the job.

Be true to yourself and your loved ones. These types of jobs aren't worth it and I really believe that the people who take these jobs do so because they can't get anything better that's less dangerous and potentially life-threatening. I think this gentleman's story is a wake up call to anyone considering entering into such deadly and thankless jobs.

I am a 26 year old female corrections officer. I have been in corrections for 4 years now. I truly enjoy my job as with any job it gets tough and I do think of quiting but I know that I make a difference each day with some of those inmates. If I left my job as a corrections officer I would not be happy and I can't think of anything else I had rather do. I feel as if I have acomplished many goals since my employment. My boss is great she and I work togethor to make inmates realize that they can make a difference in society that does matter. I encourage any female that is trult serious about being a female corrections officer to go for it! Success for you to will be just ahead.

please find you a good employment lawyer because I was fired from my city job . the city that I live in would not stop a harassing employee who threatened to kill me on 5 occassions.they fired him after they let me go,for threatening to kill a supervisor.I warned them of this mans behavior but they didnt care. this guy hit myself and three employees and nothing happened tohim until three years later. I just could not stand the physical abuse against me.

I worked in Corrections for 8 years in Oklahoma. You guys are right, curruption is rampant in these places.

Our warden was found passed out drunk in his car with a loaded weapon. He was charged and convicted, but did he lose his job??? HELL NO. They just moved him to another position in a regional office and gave him a raise.

I became ill and was unable to work for a while. Do you think they helped me? HELL NO. I was fired without cause. I put my life (college and family) on hold for that place and they screwed me when they got the chance.

I feel for you buddy. Stay safe and stay strong.

Dear Mike - "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone!" "Judge not lest ye be judged." In terms of your referring to prisoners as "dirtbags", I ask, who are you to judge? Did God step down and put corrections officers in charge of the universe? My personal feeling is that if corrections officers would spend more time trying to protect inmates and keep them calm instead of trying to be rude, obnoxious, and holier-than-thou, the prison system would work better. Considering that most people in prison will get out someday, isn't it better not to treat them like shit and prepare them to become more productive members of society?

I recently visited a friend who was serving a couple of months for a non-violent misdemeanor....the corrections officers were absolutely awful. I have never met such mean and nasty people....and THAT accomplishes NOTHING! And I get ill when I hear corrections officers complain....at taxpayer expense, you have a high income and wonderful health benefits. So let's not be so judgemental and nasty. As a taxpayer, I resent paying the salaries of those who think they are better than others. And I resent paying the salaries of congresspeople who have passed "mandatory minimums" for non-violent offenders!

Sincerely, Tyzackitty

Hi!

It's me, Tyzackitty....a vegetarian who fights for animals rights and for all those who experience prejudice....whether it is for nationality, religion, race, color, sexual orientaiton, gender, or whatever.....

I hope I was not too harsh on corrections officers....I am sure that they see all sorts of horrors every day....I am kind of "caught in the middle"....years ago, I got stopped for DUI....every day I Thank God that no one got hurt....yet, MADD describes me as a "violent criminal"....I don't want to sound self-righteous, but I beg to differ....I love animals, people, the earth, children......and I am a very sensitive, compassionate, loving kind of person!!!!

I have never caused anyone physical pain (unless of course it was belting the class bully in third grade....)....I have never killed or caused serious injury to any person or animal....and when MADD describes "arrested impaired drivers" as "violent criminals", I have to stop short. I am NOT trying to downplay the horrendous carnage that has taken place as the result of driving under the influence....yet, I just HAVE to ask you a question....have ANY of you ever met an arrested impaired driver who said "oh, damn....all I got was ARRESTED......I WISH that I could have plowed my car into a school-bus or a family mini-van....I WISH I could have plowed into an innocent person and KILLED someone or DEVASTATED LIVES or caused SEVERE PAIN to a loving person." Have any of you met that kind of person?

I don't wish to put a "bee in your bonnet", but I am afraid that God is asking me to do this.......MY DEAR CORRECTIONS OFFICERS....HAVE EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU N E V E R
broken the law? Have you all NEVER smoked pot? Have you all NEVER driven after drinking or taking sleeping pills or something? Have you all N E V E R taken something that is not yours????? Have you all N E V E R
done something that would hurt others????????????????

I don't mean to be disrespectful....if a violent person is arrested and locked up, then you have the responsibility....and that certainly cannot be easy....and I am sorry if I implied that it was simply a matter of "taking tax dollars." Yet, I DO have to fight for the non-violent arrested who are sentenced to WAY too much time because of "mandatory sentencing." Because of "mandatory sentencing", a rapist or a murderer can get off much easier than a DUI who did not injure anyone or a non-violent drug offender.

Anyway, I love people and animals and always have....my whole life! Because of my mental illness I was very harsh in criticizing the corrections staff.......but I MUST ask you to PLEASE not be overly harsh with them.........PLEASE protect everyone.....but PLEASE treat ALL INMATES the same.....and PLEASE don't single out anyone for torment just because they might be "different".....thank you very much.....

GOD BLESS ALL CREATURES AND PEOPLE AND ANIMALS!!!!
GOD WILL TAKE CARE OF ALL!
WHATEVER RELIGION, CHRISTIAN, JEWISH, MUSLIM, HINDU, BUDDHIST, WICCA, ETC.
GOD WILL TAKE CARE OF HIS WORLD!!!!

Peace, and love, always, a former alcoholic and menagerie!!!!

Get a good out of state lawyer from California. Contact the FBI and find a big left-wing news outlet to report your story to--try and aim for national news casts.

I agree with this D:

I got a message recently that people have been complaining about me; I had no idea anything I was saying was bothering anybody.

Honestly, if someone seriously asks me to stop something, I will.
I wish they would have just done that, rather than report me.

I feel like I was being a really bad person and I never even knew it.
