Just returned from ten days in Morocco and can appreciate your thoughts and comments. I'm a surfer and we hung near the coast mostly. Agidir itself affords all the civility most travelers could want such as casas de cambio and internet access, but is teeming with very ordinary tourists (yuk!) Ten miles up the coast however is a different story; Banana Village has the killer souk on Wednesday and Taghazout is a quaint, seaside village with gorgeous beaches, excellent and affordable restaurants, and really gracious, friendly people. Stay at the Farouk in Marrekesh; a deal including petit dejeuner and right in the middle of things.

If you can remember, I'd love to hear more details about the camel trek. Where did you start out from? Where did you sleep? How much did this cost? How did you arrange it?

Thanks for any help you can give me...my husband and I are planning to spend a couple of weeks in morocco in June.

I'm sure your trip was interesting, but how could anyone tell. I suggest before you do any more traveling you go to college and learn how to write as if you understood your own language - like, really, really, much, much like, you know - and then perhaps your writing would have some clout! Ugh.

Morocco is killer! I had the pleasure of travelling through there for the month of Rammadan, definetly added another dimension to the trip. It made eating during the day a bit of a hassle, but who cares cause everyone is so much more hospitable during the month when friendship, benevolence and spiritual wellbeing is being cultivated. Once you get past the nasty carpet merchants and other assorted shop keepers, Moroccans are the nicest and most open people you'll ever meet and they make amazing hash if you're into that, but buy it in the north because you'll get ripped off in the south. The 5 weeks that I spent there are some of the best times in my life, and I still long for the country of smells. Just one thing to keep in mind if you're travelling in Morocco, be wary of people you meet in the souks and keep a firm grasp on your money because everybody wants it. Oh ya, one last thing if you stay in Marrakech go to the hotel Essaouira down a little street in the far right hand corner of the Djema El Fna, so beautiful, so clean, so cheap and hot showers, something that is very hard to come by and you cherish them like you'd never would of thought.

hey, good story and quite readable (I stayed till the end). Anyway, just got back from travelling the desert with a group of magic people. We covered 120k in four days. Loved the dunes, the rocky valleys, the mountains, the Berber people. Hell man, I can't wait to go back.
To the person who was commenting on someone needing to go to college after reading his story . I have a comment for you . There was no need to personally attack that individual. He was sharing his story in a human way . Thank god we are not all perfect like you. I found the story interesting. It was his story. I have also been to Morocco and I had a wonderful magical experience there. Being a well educated woman I prefer to ramble off my nonsense of romanace in the air and yes the spices in the air were heavenly. I agree once away from the carpet dealers it was like stepping in to the past and to a world I had no idea about. I found it fasinating and exciting. I met some of the most friendly people there. True and genuine and honest. As for the person who just had to have the nasty comment . When you tell a story, grammar and sentence structure sometimes ruins the emotion of the experience. You must type how you feel. I prefer someone to have dignity and class rather that be a donkey's behind(which are polite words to use for how i felt when i read your little paragraph)and for all the rest of you . Thankyou for sharing your stories. I enjoyed reading them. I loved morocco.

Your article was fun to read to give it an American's perspective. How do you the people will react to an American International Global company?

I liked your writing sytle. I felt like we were sitting at the bar, talking about travel adventures. You gave insight not found in any travel book.
did you visit casablanca? what is moroccan architecture like? do you travel on a budget? if yes, how do you select your accomodations? is tangiers really decadent as often descibed in travel guides?
My husband is from Morocco and we visit frequently. Your article is interesting, but very shallow. There is so much to do and see in Morocco. There are excellent hotels at very low rates all throughout the country. The desert area even has some very nice hotels if you plan ahead and know where you are going. The cuisine is some of the best in the world so I don't know why you were surprised. My husband's family lives in the Medina in Fez. We spend at least a week there every time and stay in homes in the old Medina as well in the Palais Jamai, a restored palace, converted into a hotel. This country is unbelievable and I know I have the advantage of traveling with a native of the country, but it seems you missed a lot, like Rabat, Meknes, Quarazate, Agadir and a lot of the beautiful village towns, like El Jadida and Essouria. Please go back, stay off the hash and have a more memorable trip!

I preferred the comments made by mm on

01/3/27. She managed to say what I was thinking with out hurting or insulting anyone too badly. I dream of going to Morrocco. I wonder how the travel experience would be for unexcorted females. I travel extensively through out Asia, and feel relatively safe. Would it be the same in Morrocco? Do any of your travelers have any insight on this issue? Please advise.

To that person who had been there in morocco .i think that was a memorable experience that you undertook with a pre-made judgement about that exotic place of the earth .MOROCCO is and will always be the paradise of the paradises.

Thanks for sharing your travel experience, even though a little shallow. I've travelled around loads of places in The Magical Morocco and found everything to be above my expectations. Great beaches, hotels, trekking, top rate food, hospitable locals historical attractions and great nightlife, but people don't go on holiday just to do what they already do back home nor to get high!

And if you looked properly, you may have seen lots of other high quality crafted goods, besides carpet. I'll be going again and counting the days untill summer 2002 ROLL ON Morocco 2002
