Have Faith…Artist

I’m a first-time visitor to this website. I’ve been very touched by the stories I’ve read – so many unhappy people working their lives away in jobs they hate. I have been there myself and it is comforting to know that others have shared similar experiences and have felt the same emotions.

People, don’t you know that life is too short to grind your lives away doing something that makes you miserable? I know, I know – you’ve got bills to pay. You need to keep a roof over your head, food in your mouth and clothes on your back. Besides, family and friends point out how much time and money you’ve invested in your education to pursue your particular career. And wouldn’t it be a shame to toss all of that in the trash can at this point? But I ask you – why did you choose to pursue your particular career in the first place? Was it because YOU had a passion for it, and truly believed you would find meaning in your work? Or did you choose a particular career because family and friends that it was the “right” career for you, and that you would “gain prestige and make a lot of money”? When you found out it wasn’t the right career choice for you, did family and friends lay a “guilt trip” on you?

My biggest question is – WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO NOW? There’s really only two choices. Keep working at the same sucking career for another 10, 20, 30 years – or find a way out! At the very least, add more balance to your life.

For some of you, the answer may be to go back to school – but this time, really understand what field you’re getting into before you decide to major in it! Talk to people who work in a particular career field and will be completely honest with you.

If you can’t go back to school, you can still look at ways to add balance to your life to make working at your job more tolerable. You can’t let a sucking job become the center of your life or you won’t have a life! You’ll experience physical and mental problems – maybe end up with cancer or go insane. I’m not joking!

Think back to when you were a kid. What interested you then? For me, it was art. After having chosen the wrong career, I finally sat down and thought back to my childhood. And I realized that my dreams back then were of becoming a famous artist or drawing a comic strip for newspapers. Today, I’ve finally persued that childhood dream and have gone further with my career than I ever imagined I could.

What hobbies do you have that might eventually be turned into a full-time career? Have you ever thought about doing something where you are your own boss? So many people only think of working for someone else! Expand your thinking. Think far-out, creatively, (absurdly, even)! Somewhere there will be an answer for you.

Don’t let FEAR stop you! Have faith in God – have faith in yourself! Don’t let others tell you what you should do or be – it’s your life, and you’ve only got one shot at it on this earth! What a shame it would be to waste it doing something you hate!
