Webmaster….Thank God for the Internet

I have a different job, I guess it could, easily, be classified as one of the best jobs anyone could possibly have. I work for myself, maintaining a Web site with technical information on a specific computer programming language. I make my money from selling advertising on the site and make six figures. I work about 10 to 15 hours a week at it.

Most reading this are probably a triffle envious right about now, but it’s not all it’s cracked up to be. Working for yourself is great in some respects, but not others. For example, I have enjoyed the social atmosphere of the workplace, and that lacks when you work alone, at home. I miss having friends through work, because those friends share your interests. Working on your own, it’s hard to meet people who have interests in the computer things I do. Also, while I only work a couple hours a day, everyone else works many more… the downside to this is that during the day, my friends are at work, so the afternoons can get pretty boring.

I am not complaining, mind you, I wouldn’t trade in my job for anything and I do realize how lucky I am… This is a job I kinda stumbled into… I started running this Web site as a hobby, as I worked for a consulting company using the technology. As my site started to talk off, I “retired” from my consulting job and focused on the site. It’s been such a trip, I’ve been economically self-sufficient with the site for almost a year now…

With technology you have no idea how long anything will last… I know I won’t be doing this forever, that I will probably have to return to a “real job” sometime in the future… but right now I’m taking it easy and enjoying this…
