Unimpressed Correctional officer

I have been a correctional officer in Texas for 2 years. I have seen many changes through out the system.

They say they are going to do a budget cut but raise the standards. I have been around long enough to see the little cliques.

I am not empressed with TDCJ. Texas prisoners live better than the correctional officers do. It cost more to house one inmate in a year than what I make. I have seen discrimnation at one of the Huntsville units.

There are stories of the ranks getting some of the female officers pregnant. I personally feel that they should go back to the old of running prison. They run Texas prisons like a daycare. I personally feel that prison should be a place that you never want to go back to.

How many of you all believe that tax payers pay too much to house inmates?

  2. Was someone a boss friendly?Boo hoo poor inmates.Used to work there?Now I understand.
  3. I'm not boss friendly at all. The bosses are the ones who give the guards their jobs caging others up like animals. Some prisoners act like animals, and many are just in for drug and property stuff. And many guards are just like Charles Graner, too.

Prisons are gangland, and the guards and their owners, the bosses, are just the bigggest and nastiest gang in the setting. Let's face it, what decent person in the world would want to be a prison guard? The whole idea behind the US prison system is to brutalize the prisoners as much as possible, and that's what the prisons are set up for. It's a 'Christian' thing. Only the type of 'Christians' like Hitler, Franco, and Mussolini had around them are really into the job. And even then, only desperate for money people without skills really find themselves holding the job down for very long. And sadists.

  4. I think your statement that the inmates in Texas live better than you is a prime example of the lack of intelligence most of our states correctional officers have. First of all. there are people in prison that are innocent, secondly there are people in prison that are trying to rebuid there lives and become better people. The TDCJ guards as a whole are lacking education, all you need is a GED to qualify for the job, and they lack any kind of compassion for the people locked up. If you don't like your job, quit! Go get an education and be someone or check the local McDonalds for openings! The guards I have encountered, and there have been many are starving for authority and lacking in ability to do anything else except that Mc Donalds gig. Get a life!
  5. Don't assume that all Correctional Officers are uneducated. Many are educated and have families to support. There are plenty of decent law abiding correctional officers out there, if you don't believe it ask an offender. They can tell you who are fair and consistent officers, and they can tell you who aren't. I agree the standards need to be raised, as does the salary. I don't have a problem with offenders costing the state more per year than I receive every year, I have decent (not the best) health insurance for myself and my family. I have retirement benefits and while I serve my time as a correctional officer, I am working on my Masters degree, when my twenty is over I plan on using this opportunity to make me a better person. Stop complaining, do your job and stop coveting what the offenders have. A job is what you make it, you can be miserable, or you can be content. If you don't like what is happening in the prisons, stand up and make a difference, for one GO VOTE!
  6. I'm also a Correctional Officer for TDCJ at the "Coffield Unit" and have been for the last 3yrs. While i'll admit their are some dirty boss's from rank sleeping with officer's to inmates with officer's both male and female not all are like myself for instance. I know when to be tough with the inmates but sometimes you do gota treet them like kids. As for you comment on the pay yes it does suck but you realy shouldn't be thinking about that rember why we are their to help protect the genral public from these men that have done some kinda crime that society has decided to lock them up for a long time. It ain't a glorious job, I guess you could say "we are the unsung heroes of law enforcment"

We are the unsung heroes of law enforcment! That blows! who in their right mind wants to be unsung!? If we got respect it might make taling all the b/s a little easier...I have only been in the system for just over a year. In that short time period I can see the problems and where the budgets is faulty too. The pay is could be better in my eyes, don't get me wrong I won't complain if the was a huge pay raise. I am sure that if there was a politican out there that had a family member out there that worked for tdcj, there would be a change in the system. When you say that the offenders have to be treated like children...you are absolutely correct!!!! they are just huge babies that try their hardest to get their way. This job is great but it sucks big time too!!!
  9. I'm a nurse in a small county jail. Our census generally runs around 170-190. Some of the CO's are educated guys with military experience, looking to use their jail positions as a way to jump into law enforcement. But you'd better believe that not all have such noble aspirations and call a good day at work any day that the taser gets used. Mostly I see guys who are still teenagers but who now have some form of police power at their disposal. You can imagine the consequences.

If the Sate of Texas has coddled prisoners so as you say, then maybe you might want to ACTUALLY trade places instead of just saying that it would be so much better? Go for it! Enjoy that Life of Riley that you say exists for the presos in GITMO, Texas.

Oh sorry though. You could kill dozens of prisoners at work and still not get a traffic ticket. So I guess you'll just have to keep slaving away. How sad....
A torture chamber? Hardly. You probably worked at Stiles and you probably sat on a trash can during your entire inglorious "career" as a dumbass. Texas prisons are like big day cares full of whiny little kids. "When are you gonna roll the doors boss?, whens chow? whens rec? Whats up with that commisary bossman?" Good Lord, I thought this was prison, not day care for grown ups. The state of Texas DOES coddle prisoners, and they get treated WAY to well in my opinion. Need funding for prisons? Stop serving cake and iced cream in the chow hall. Need money for the prison? Stop giving them a new pair of boots every time they INTENTIONALLY ruin the ones they are issued. Need funding for the prison system? Stop buying new basketballs, handballs, and weight equipment every time they throw a ball over the fence of break the stuff we give them. I HOPE they are miserable in prison. I HOPE they wish they were dead. I HOPE they NEVER want to go back. I met a man that killed his girlfriends INFANT child by putting it in the microwave. Think I give a flying shit if he feels like he's in a "concentration camp"? No. Met a serial child rapist last week. Think I give a shit if he doesn't have toilet paper because he accidentally dropped his in the toilet? Nope. Think I care if they live on bread and water and only get fed every other day? Wish it was that way. Maybe I'd get a raise because the state would have some cash. I HOPE they feel like caged animals. I HOPE they hate every day of their miserable existence for their crimes. I HATE that MY money that I EARN HONESTLY while babysitting their dumb ass's goes to buy them new sheet, pillows and food. The only part that I wish was different is that there IS innocent people behind bars, and that's sad it really is, but the system isn't perfect.
I love my job. I feel proud that I contribute to keeping these con's off the street, that I keep these child molesters behind bars where they should be. People love to talk about arresting criminals and sending them to prison, but once that thug is gone society forgets about them, and about the people that keep that punk locked up. Don't forget about us America. We keep them from getting out and sometimes its rough. Like sleeping soundly in your bed? Thank a CO, because we keep the monsters out of your house and away from your kids, 24/7 365. Non stop.
  11. Yah, I see them same on holding the inmates hand and saying(" oh what can i do to make your stay here a more enjoyable one ) give me a break!
I guess you would call me a whistle blower , when I came to work at a AD SEG unit I never would get a vest and if i did get one it would be empty so i would fill it up front and back with I-60 's froms and when they inmates would ask for them I would say they are being used at this time but i will get them to them at the end of the shift .... it would be all sweaty by then but what ever. told them to put my name right on the forms it would look good for promotions. hehehe
well I made some calls to Austin and man they where looking for vest but now we have to share sweaty vest from one shift to the other and some are gettting rashes from this ,, this is gross, but they dont have enough money to give the rest of us vest , and to top it off , i ask a questions like hey do these have a exp date? of like 5 years ? like the bullet vests do ? i was given a look like i should be quite , yah right . hehehe oh i could go on and on ,, how about this one I heard and they said it was true , they are going to pass a rule in huntsville that we women can not wear underwire bras any more ,huh? thats right ladies. now there is no sport bra that lifts and seperates your breast or compress with out underwires, I dont know what you ladies out there but I hate having to stop what i am doing to fix my una boobs problem , yah i can see it now you make the call to a supervisor - i need to go to the bathe room i have una boob and i need to wipe the sweat and seperate them can u get me some to relieve me ,,,,yah right , if that happened i think we would see more male officers say can they go to the bathroom to adjust the man bag hehehehehe what ever .... any way
I think thats against the my civil rights, i ask this but no one wants to answer me ......
Inmates can get all the best of everything and the state has no money for the officers. Man It is only 86.08 per injection for a deathrow inmate hummmm thats to 2.3 million for each case .hummm where dose it all go ??? yah ok gime them more and take more away from us.... make everything better huh?
I cant stand those bible thumpers and those bleeding heart liberals,,, you have no place in corrections as far as the bible thumpers "NEWS FLASH" they pick up the bible when they come to prison and they drop it off when they get out ..... oh I really like this one .........they are not called inmates any more they want to be called OFFENDERS omg! to soften the image of the inmate so they wont look to hursh in court what???? so you have an inmate in court who just killed a little girl or raped a child and he is an offender what next? are they going to try to soften the names for the crimes too???? for them so it wont look too bad and get a lighter sentence????
